Sacred Heart Cathedral
A landmark in Guangzhou is the Sacred Heart Cathedral. It is the largest Gothic Revival Roman Catholic cathedral in Southeast Asia. This building is situated in Yuexiu District of the city.
The Sacred Heart Cathedral was built in 1863. Construction began on the feast of Sacred Heart of Jesus, the second Sunday of June. During the construction, the French architect Leon Vautrin was engaged to design the church.

Chen Temple

This temple was built with the donations of the Chen family. Every spring, the Chens offered sacrifices to their ancestors. They also used the temple to prepare for the imperial examinations.
Chens from all over Guangdong visited the temple. Among the candidates were Chen Botao, who was awarded the title of “tanhua”.
The temple is a combination of stone carvings, wood carvings, and brick carvings. Wood carvings are used to depict stories from Chinese history and literature. Granite and pottery figurines are also found here. Stone sculptures are often made into human figures and insects.
The temple is divided into six courtyards and nine halls. Originally, it was an academy for the Chen family. But in 1959, it was converted into a folk arts and crafts gallery.
